A private goal journal. You keep a handful of goals and write into a journal; your own AI model turns those entries into polished versions, updates the progress on whichever goals you touched, and maintains four running lists of themes across everything you have written. On top of that sits a daily plan — three things that matter today, plus reminders.

Goals are roadmaps, not to-do lists. Each goal's tasks sort themselves into Ready now, Waiting on something, and Done, derived from the dependencies between them. There is no drag-to-reorder anywhere in sarn, on purpose.

The journal keeps four running lists — Accomplishments, What's working, Needs improvement, Worth considering — that your model maintains across every entry, with each point linking back to the days it was drawn from. Your raw text is kept exactly as you typed it and is never overwritten.

A day counts when you wrote something and a goal moved. Three counted days in a row start a run.

Miss a day and it is owed rather than lost: the next counted day pays it back instead of adding to the total, and the cairn leans until it does. Owing three days ends the run.

One from OpenRouter, from OpenAI, or from any provider that speaks the OpenAI-compatible API. In Settings you pick a provider, paste the key, and give a model id; for a custom provider you also give the base URL.

The key is encrypted before it is stored and is only ever sent to that base URL.

Any chat model your provider exposes over that API. sarn asks the model for structured JSON back rather than free text, so a model that follows instructions reliably does noticeably better than whichever is cheapest — but nothing is locked to one vendor, and you can change the model id whenever you like.

There is a free plan, and it is the one that exists today. sarn itself costs nothing on it: you bring your own AI key — from OpenRouter, OpenAI, or any OpenAI-compatible provider — and pay that provider directly for the calls sarn makes with it. That bill is between you and them.

Paid plans are coming. They will include a hosted AI model, so you will not need a key of your own. They are not available yet — there are no prices, no tiers, and no card to enter — and nothing in the app asks you to pay today.

The app works. Goals, the roadmap, the Big 3, reminders, the journal and the run all function with no key configured, and nothing you write is sent anywhere.

What waits is the AI part: entries are not polished, goal progress is not written for you, and the themes panel stays paused until a model is connected.

Not by us. We do not train models on your writing, and we do not hand it to anyone else to train theirs.

Your own provider is a separate question, and an important one: some providers retain prompts, and some train on them by default unless you opt out. Their policy governs the text sarn sends them with your key. It is worth reading before you paste it in.

Yes — entries, goal and task text, plan items, the AI-written notes and your stored key are encrypted field by field with AES-256-GCM, using a key held outside the database.

It is not zero-knowledge: the server decrypts your writing to show it to you and to call your model. The security page explains exactly what that does and does not protect against.

Settings → Your data → Download my data gives you one JSON file with everything you have written, decrypted and readable rather than a pile of ciphertext.

Your API key is deliberately left out of it — it is a live credential, not your writing.

It is immediate and permanent. Deleting the account removes your goals, tasks, entries, plans, themes, profile and stored key in one cascade. There is no grace period and no soft delete.

Nightly backups are kept for 14 days, so data may sit in a backup until it ages out; backups are never searched or restored on request. Export first if you want a copy.

sarn is an installable web app — add it to your home screen on iOS or Android and it opens full-screen, without browser chrome, like any other app. It is mobile-first, built for opening in the morning to set the day and at night to write it down.

Native App Store and Play Store builds are on the roadmap, not shipped.

No. sarn has no sharing, no collaboration and no notifications, and adding them is not planned. It is a single private journal for one person.

No. It is a personal productivity tool — not therapy, not a medical device, and not a source of medical, psychological, legal or financial advice.

When an entry appears to touch on self-harm, sarn shows crisis resources instead of AI-generated suggestions. That check is a fixed phrase list rather than a model, it stores nothing, and it is not a safety or monitoring system. If you are struggling, please talk to a person.
